Company History

Mr. Garlock started Garlock Roofing in 1932. The majority of the work performed then was fixing deteriorated roofs because of the depression and the fact that there weren’t a lot of new roof projects at the time. Mr. Garlock ran the company until early 1955 when he sold the company to his son who ran it until 1964.

At this time the company was then sold again to Mr. French who then changed the name to Garlock-French Roofing. He ran the company until 1984. At this time the company was still very small employing approximately 15 full time workers and selling about $450,000.

In June of 1984 the current owners bought the company and have focused it on high quality where excellence is the goal. Currently more than 75% of the company’s business relates to residential remodeling projects. A homeowner usually obtains a contract with our company to do roofing, carpentry, sheet metal, masonry, gutters, and other miscellaneous remodeling projects. In 1987, the company began its own sheet metal shop, which custom fabricates and produces all different types of sheet metal projects.

Today over 90% of our business is the result of old customers and referrals. In 1986 the company also placed great emphasis on customer service. An eleven-question customer evaluation is given to customers to fill out. The evaluation asks the customer to rate our company on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest. About half of the customers fill out the surveys. For the past few years, the average performance score has been 4.72. This gauge assures us that our commitment to quality work and customer satisfaction is a reality and will provide a base for future growth.

Today we still focus on our customer. We will perform jobs all over Minnesota mainly working in the Twin cities and surrounding area. We also will do work in North Dakota and Wisconsin. We have even performed work as far away as Montana and Florida.
