BUILT-UP ROOFING (B.U.R.)
B.U.R., also known as hot tar roofing, is a system built up by installing alternating layers of asphalt saturated felts, or fiberglass reinforced roofing plies, between alternating layers of molten asphalt. At Garlock-French Roofing Corporation we will design a roofing system to suit your specific building, either residential or commercial. Our experienced team will plan and complete the project with minimal disruption to you. We can ensure that the insulation system is designed to meet the building’s needs. We are able to install multiple types of insulation including tapered insulation to help facilitate drainage. The insulation is either mechanically fastened or mopped down with hot bitumen. Typically, we remove the old roofing system down to the existing deck prior to installation of your new roof.
A typical B.U.R. system is comprised of two layers of insulations with staggered seams, and three or more layers of fiberglass reinforced roofing plies which are fully mopped with hot bitumen, then surfaced with gravel or a cap sheet.
