TWO PIECE GUTTERS
Two-piece gutters are comprised of a “U” shaped base gutter with the face of the gutter made to a specific profile. This gutter is normally fastened to the fascia board and separate straps are installed that hook onto the front lip and are fastened back against the fascia board or onto the roof deck. A second piece of drip edge material called gutter apron is installed to the roof deck and extends down into the back of the gutter. One variation of this gutter system is a half-round gutter that is hung on straps that are fastened to the roof deck or can have other brackets fastened to the fascia.
The concern with this type of gutter system is that the joint between the back of the gutter and the gutter apron is not water tight and water could back up through that joint and enter the structure. Care must be used when detailing the waterproofing at that joint to prevent that water infiltration
This gutter system should be installed in such a manner that the gutter slopes toward the downspouts. Check with your Garlock-French representative to determine the best detail at the lower edge of the roof for your specific situation.
