THERMOPLASTIC POLYOLEFIN (TPO)
TPO, a flexible, polyester reinforced synthetic rubber membrane is another roofing material available through Garlock-French Roofing Corporation. Sheets range in thickness from 45 to 60 mils and are typically white, black, or gray. Other colors are available by special order. The TPO membrane is lightweight, energy efficient, and aesthetically pleasing. Like EPDM, TPO has outstanding low temperature flexibility and adapts well to unusually shaped buildings and to those that experience structural movement. It has also shown good resistance to environmental contaminants, including animal fats and various chemical particulates or liquids that may be vented onto the roof.
We can install TPO in any of the following applications: 1) ballasted--where rock or concrete pavers are laid over the top, 2) fully adhered--where the material is glued to insulation boards that have been attached or adhered to the substrate, or 3) mechanically attached--where the membrane is fastened to the substrate with screws and two-inch diameter plates. Since TPO is a thermoplastic material (not fully cured), heat is applied to overlapped sheets to secure the seams. The welded seam has bond strengths that equal or exceed the strength of the base material.
