Asphalt Shingles
The typical roof project begins with a careful set-up around your property, removal of the existing roofing, along with preparation of the roof deck. Next we install proper waterproofing, flashings, vents and saddles. Shingles are installed using galvanized iron nails (never staples) in a secure manner. We perform a daily site clean-up along with a thorough final clean-up and inspection. Building codes in this area require that all existing roofing be torn off and the decking inspected prior to installation of a new roofing system.
Asphalt shingles are the most common type of roofing material used on steep slope roofs. This type of shingle consists of a fiberglass base mat, followed by a weathering grade asphalt, then a colored granule surface.
Traditionally, asphalt shingles were classified as 3-tab or laminated singles. Today there are so many variations that there is no simple way to make adequate general classifications. There are strip shingles with varying numbers of tabs, some cut at differing shapes and sizes. There are oversized shingles in both strip and laminate configurations. Laminated shingles now have 2, 3 and 4 layers bonded together on a shingle and cut with different sizes and patterns. The variety of styles, color and textures has increased dramatically.
Manufacturer warranties of asphalt shingle roof systems can vary from 25 years to Lifetime. The weights vary from between 220 to 425 pounds per 100 square feet. Fire resistance classifications are A and C and impact test resistance classifications vary from 1 to 4. Furthermore, there are cool rated granule, Energy Star rated and algae resistant granules available as well. Your Garlock French Roofing estimator will be happy to go into more detail about all of these specifications and what they mean for your roof and for you.
