Steep Slope Metal Roofing
Classifying metal roof systems is a challenge, because of the many variations and types available. The first classification that is commonly used is Architectural or Structured system. The Architectural systems are applied over a structured deck, while the Structured systems do not require a structural deck and instead are fastened directly to rafters or purlins. The discussion here will deal only with Architectural Systems.
The first system will be a vertical panel system, where the panels run from the lower edge to the peak. A common variation of this is a standing seam roof. There are a number of panel profiles, batten or seam profiles and types of metal.
Another system is stone coated metal. These are metal panels that are coated with a granule similar to asphalt shingles that are epoxied to the surface of the metal. The panels are available in many different colors and profiles.
The next system is a long horizontal panel system, commonly called a Bermuda Panel. This system creates strong horizontal lines stepped up the roof.
The last system is a shingle type panel system. These panels are up to approximately 4’ long and installed similar to shingles. There are many different profiles available, imitating most other steep slope roofing materials.
Your GFRC representative will be happy to assist you in selections and specifications of these systems.
