STANDING SEAM METAL ROOFS

Standing seam metal panels are fabricated either with a roll former or on a brake. The typical metals used for these systems are Kynar coated galvanized iron or copper, but other metals are also used. There are a number of different seam profiles, ranging from battens to snap-lock to double locked with several variations of each.

Fastening of panels is accomplished with individual clips or through slotted openings. Expansion and contraction must be considered when determining the fastening points on the panel and planning for the direction that movement will be allowed.

Underlayments need to be installed under the panels and the type and quality of the underlayment will be determined by the details of the roof and the system.

Penetrations must be carefully designed to maintain their integrity during movement of the panels.

Panels can be fabricated to different widths for desired appearance. Also panels can be fabricated for either concave or convex curved surfaces and are commonly used on bay roofs. If you need more information, contact your Garlock-French Roofing representative, who will be happy to assist you.
